I've followed this guide on MAC address spoofing.

I'm trying to change the MAC address for my wireless adapter. I seem to be able to change it when doing the registry edit, but only if the second digit is something other than 0 (I think it has to be 2). I've tried in the device manager, from SMAC, and from the registry, and I can't seem to set the first two digits to 00 (it just reverts to the initial MAC address).

Is there any way around this, or am I out of luck? Is this a Windows 7 restriction, or is it the firmware on the wireless adapter that doesn't seem to work? I've also followed the instructions on that page to try and change it in Ubuntu as well, but didn't seem to have any luck there either.

Any ideas?

If your hardware doesn't support changing it's MAC address then the easiest solution would be to purchase a new USB 802.11x card. Since the MAC address depends on the NIC a new usb card would do the trick.

Edit:
You can change your MAC address by doing this.

From the command line, log in as root and type;

ifdown eth0
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:80:FF:FF:98:F5
ifup eth0

This change will only persist until you reboot, so you probably want to put this in your boot script /etc/init.d/

Windows – Changed MAC address of Wireless card being ignored

Download Intel's Wireless ProSet and install it (with advanced options). This will give you all the configuration options possible, and MAC spoofing is usually one of them (can't say for sure for your specific WiFi model).

Grab the larger package for your bit-level, as it will include the ProSet utility instead of just the driver.
