Linux – way to take a screenshot in KDE desktop by pressing only the “PrtSc” key

I am using Fedora 25. I have installed both GNOME and KDE and some other desktop systems. I frequently take screenshots when I see any video like tutorial, documentary etc.

For GNOME to take a screenshot I can simply press the PrtSc button and there is no extra work to save it. But in KDE, after pressing PrtSc I have to save it. Across many screenshots this is annoying and also takes time; however, I do like the UI of KDE.

So is there any way that I could take a screenshot like GNOME, without going through the additional process of saving the image, in KDE?

If currently there is no such option or program to do that, is it possible to make a program to solve it?

By default, Shift + PrtSc works for me. To change the shortcut key, have to check the hotkeys.

For newer versions of Plasma, the screenshot shortcut settings are under Shortcuts -> Custom Shortcuts. The screenshot below is for an older version.

I know you said you had a problem with ImageMagick, but I think you should ask another question about why import is not working for you.

Well I found this page on how to take a screenshot on ubuntu linux, and there I picked the ImageMagick way and wrapped that in a little script. (or try scrot).

Save this in ~/bin/take_screenshot.sh

#!/bin/sh

time=`date +%Y%m%d_%H%M%S`
import -window root ~/screenshot_$time.png
#scrot ~/screenshot_$time.png

Then make the script executable

chmod 755 bin/take_screenshot.sh

Then you add a keyboard shortcut that execute this script (well first you should try to run it from the terminal and make sure it is working...).

And now when you press that Command+Shift+3 a screenshot will be saved in your home dir with a unique name, something like screenshot_20100318_074618.png.

When dual booting linux and windows, make sure the motherboard clock is set to "local", or at least that both agree on the format. In gentoo you set it in /etc/conf.d/clock, variable CLOCK="local".
On fedora I don't know where you do it.

Probably you should set UTC=false in /etc/sysconfig/clock.
