Linux – Java: cannot execute binary file

I'm trying to install Java on my Linux machine, but I'm getting the following error upon executing the installer:

./install.sfx.5077: cannot execute binary file

I've tried to copy the Java folder from another machine, and I get the same error after executing the "java" binary.

What do you think could be causing this?

To answer my own question, it appears that I downloaded 64bit version by mistake :/

The problem is your call to su.

The correct syntax for executing a command as another user is:

su [username] -c "[command]"

Note the quotes around the command; its important to keep the other arguments to the command get executed properly.

Are you sure java is in your PATH environment? It seems like not. Can you try /bin/java or something like that:

/bin/java -version
