Windows – shortcut to open Command prompt in Administrator mode

It is fast and easy to open command prompt on windows: Win + R and cmd. It is also possible to open the command prompt as an administrator: Right click on the icon and run as administrator.

But this method is more time consuming. So is there a way to do it faster (via a combination of shortcut and typing like I mentioned for command prompt)?

I have tried to use Win + R with CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER but with no success:

Here are examples of command prompts opened with various means:

Clicking on an icon
Clicking on the icon with right click and run as administrator
Win + R, cmd, Enter
Win + R, cmd, Ctrl + Shift + Enter

Press + X then press A to open a CMD.exe with admin rights.

Try this on a normal command prompt:

powershell -command "start-process cmd -verb runas"

If the command still end up opening a normal command prompt, update your PC using Windows Update, then try again.

How to Always Run Command Prompt as Administrator

To answer the first part of your question, when you hit the Windows key and type "CMD" you can hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open as administrator.

To answer the second part of your question, paste the following into notepad and save it with a ".reg" extension:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas]
@="Open Command Window Here as Administrator"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas\command]
@="cmd.exe /s /k pushd \"%V\""

Then run the file. It will merge the changes into the registry and add the option to your context menus. (No shift key needed.)
