Windows – How to open Windows Explorer to a particular directory from a Windows command prompt

When I'm in a particular directory in a Windows command prompt, I sometimes want to open Windows Explorer so it already shows that same directory. How do I do that?

(I'm looking for the equivalent to open . in a Mac OS X terminal.)

Either one of these should do the trick:

explorer .
start .

Ctrl + C will stop a program running from the command prompt, similar to other operating systems.

To force kill a process from the command prompt, use the following command:

taskkill /F /IM process.exe

/F will force termination, /IM means you're going to provide the executable (image) name, and process.exe is the process to end.

Like this:

explorer .

The period being used to represent the current folder. Single one meaning this folder, Two of them, being the next folder up the hierarchy.

If at C:\Users\Bonzo...

explorer .

Opens up the folder C:\Users\Bonzo

explorer ..

Opens up the folder C:\Users, and

explorer ..\..

Opens up C:\

The dots work also with the cd command and pretty much anywhere else you need to specify locations.
