Windows – How to open console2 (or any other exe) through the explorer location bar

Often I want to do something in CMD or Python with files in a particular folder so I open the folder, click on the location bar and type "cmd" or "python" (then hit Enter) and, respectively, CMD or the Python terminal opens with that folder as there current working directory.

I'm trying to switch to using Console2 (mainly for copy/paste ease) and I'm wondering if there's a way to do the same. If I type "console" (which is the run command I set up) in a location bar, explorer thinks this must an internet address and opens my web browser to the address "console/".

Note:
I know how to add (and have added) right-click context menus, but I'd prefer to type "console" into the location bar as that's my current habit.

ConEmu has "Default terminal" feature. It will handle all console applications regardless of the way you've start them.

Using Git Bash Here in Console2

Here's what I did (your paths with almost certainly vary):

Create a new tab in Console with the following values:
- Title: Git Bash
- Icon: C:\Program Files\Git\etc\git.ico
- Shell "C:\Program Files\Git\bin\sh.exe" --login -i
- Startup dir: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
Create a new key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\ called git_shell2 with a data value of Git Console Here
Create a new key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\git_shell2\ called command with a data value of "C:\Users\charlesr\My Dropbox\Software\Console2\Console.exe" -t "Git Bash" -d "%1"

This does the trick.

Instead of doing steps 2 and 3 above, you could just copy the following into a .reg file (modify the paths to suit your own config first) then import into the registry.

Windows – Start MSYS in current folder

I'm not sure what version of msysgit you are using, but for me calling msys.bat does not change the current directory. If you see the directory being changed, check the etc/profile file in the msysgit directory for cd commands. As this file gets executed when a login shell is started it might be the cause for you to always land in your home directory.
