Passwords – How to Retrieve a Stored WLAN Password from Windows 7

I'm trying to connect to my friends wireless network, but we don't know the password (ie. network/WEP/WPA key). The WLAN is secured by WPA2.

My friend's laptop with Windows 7 connects automatically to the WLAN. Is there a way to get the password from his laptop?

WirelessKeyView from Nirsoft should do the trick.

However, AVG (antivirus) flags it up as spyware/adware. Not sure if it is or not but just thought you may like to know...

To block a neighbor's unencrypted wireless network called WLAN, type this in a command window as an administrator:
netsh wlan add filter permission=block ssid=WLAN networktype=infrastructure

I just had it again: after a reboot, Windows 7 automatically connected to a public open (but non-working) network I have never connected to, and I didn't have any option (in the UI) to prevent that. The command above (with the network name in double quotes instead of WLAN) completely removed the network from Windows' radar!

It looks like the driver for my moms laptop was outdated. I downloaded the latest driver for the Artheros AR5007 wireless card from http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=21&system=3 and now it works no problem connecting via WPA2-Personal encryption.
