Firefox – How to force Firefox to remember a password

There are a couple of sites that I use (off the top of my head, the Xbox Live portal and del.icio.us) for which Firefox will not offer to remember my password. Any ideas on how to force Firefox to recognize the username/password fields for these pages?

EDIT: My primary laptop is Windows, but I believe I've seen the same behavior for these sites on my MacBook as well. Also, these sites are not in my Exceptions list.

Make a bookmark with the following code. You click on the bookmark before you login to a site. Firefox will now allow you to save the password. Any Microsoft property won't allow you to save the password.

IIRC, you can save it for that one site then disable the Password remembering. Another way, since Firefox's password manager is so insecure that you can access it without even booting into your OS, even with a master password, is to use KeePass, which fakes keystrokes to enter your password in on-demand. Much more secure.

OK so here is another answer I think is more convenient that the Javascript one.

First go to your Firefox components folder, by default in my case it's "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components"

Now open the file nsLoginManager.js

Go to the function at around line 804 (varies with version of Firefox), that reads:

 * Returns true if the page requests autocomplete be disabled for the
 * specified form input.
 */
_isAutocompleteDisabled :  function (element) {
    if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&
        element.getAttribute("autocomplete").toLowerCase() == "off")
        return true;

    return false;
},

Now comment out the first 3 lines, so it ends up like this:

 * _isAutoCompleteDisabled
 *
 * Returns true if the page requests autocomplete be disabled for the
 * specified form input.
 */
_isAutocompleteDisabled :  function (element) {
    /*if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&

    return false;

Save it, restart Firefox and you should be good to go...
