How to Detect Who Is Consuming Space on Hard Disk

My System Disk "C:\", where is installed Win7x64 OS has 80 GB. I hah last time free space 8 GB, after uninstalling some apps and cleanup Disk, BUT every day disk free space is varying from 8 to 1 GB, while basically from that PC it's internet surfing performed (no by me).

Concrete case: I see there 1 GB, after restart 3-4 GB, then after some hours again 1 GB, then it may be even less or again up to 8GB.

HOW TO detect who is consuming disk pace – maybe some tool, utility which collect statistics and show in real-time and historically who what consumed on Hard Disk?

Most likely your pagefile is set to automatically resize and is resizing due to memory pressure.

You can either go through the control panel to view the pagefile settings or open a Powershell console and use Get-CimInstance Win32_PageFileUsage | Select *

First off, bad sectors will not be copied over.

Most of the time, programs that claim to fix bad sectors do not fix them. What they do is find out where the bad sectors are and put police ropes all around them to prevent your system from writing data to those blocks. Does is work all of the time?, no.

You should replace the disk. You risk your data by not replacing the disk.

Copy everything as soon as possible.

You can also try to do a full format on the hard drive (once you get as much data off as possible). Sometimes a full format will help clear up any bad sectors, but is more of a long shot.

Scanning the HDD continuously should not increase bad sectors, but got, it'd be annoying to keep scanning drives with bad sectors.

One thing i've done in the past with a bad disk (more motor related) with is plugged it in outside of the computer. I had a pan of some water and ice sitting on the drive (after having it in the freezer for a bit). I kept the drive extremely cold and was able to copy over data.

Chances are good the system is in fact retaining data in the form of shadow copies (system restore points). Shadow copies are basically snapshots of the contents of the disk at specific points in time, from which data can be restored. Because of the way they work, the temporary data may be retained in a shadow copy even if you delete the files from the filesystem. You'll need to delete these shadow copies to free up space.

If you don't mind losing restore points, you can run the following command in an elevated command prompt to delete all shadow copies on the system volume:

vssadmin Delete Shadows /For=C:

If you'd like to reduce the amount of space used for shadow copies, you can set the maximum amount of space the system will use by running the following command, again in an elevated prompt:

vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=<size>

The size can be a value ending in a suffix like MB or GB (e.g. 4GB) or a percentage of the volume size (e.g. 5%). Older shadow copies will be automatically deleted if necessary to fit within the specified amount of space.
