I have Nero burning ROM 9, but I don't want to use it to burn a DVD. I just want to create a ISO file of an existing Video DVD. I can see how to create a .nrg file, but I don't see how to create an ISO.
Can anyone tell me how to create an ISO file from a DVD in Nero 9?
If the below screenshot matches what you see, you simply need to select the DVD-ROM (ISO) option in the sidebar on the left.
If the sidebar doesn't match what you see, I can't help you with Nero, as I don't use it. However, in that case you might try seeing the instructions at http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download. Click "Show me how" at Step 2 ("Burn your CD or create a bootable USB stick").

DVDs consist of more than just video files. You’re likely familiar with how a DVD can have a menu. DVDs support a vast set of features rarely used like multiple camera perspectives, advanced playlists/branching (e.g. director’s edition and cinema cut on the same disc) and whatnot.
All this stuff is held together by a program of sorts. This program is created by a so-called DVD Authoring software. Most of them are commercial solutions, but there are free alternatives like DVDStyler.
Unfortunately, I don’t know of any scriptable tools, which is basically what you’re looking for.

You should be able to write to a
.nrgor.isofile through Nero's image burner. I am currently using Nero 10 but it should be the same exact process in 9 IIRC.To make an ISO of a disc*:
Image Recorderas your recording device.ISO Image File.To make an ISO of your project:
Image Recorderas your recording device.ISO Image File.Note: If it is a protected disc, burning may not work due to the protection mechanisms. You'd need some software to bypass the protections in order to do so and have it work. Free software such as Alcohol 52% can make these images for you (and provides a virtual drive to mount these images to) or paid software such as AnyDVD (HD) can bypass and record.
