I would like to do some basic graphics using Paint.NET. I would like to start with a transparent background and draw on top of it, but I can't find any settings on how to do that. I only get a new image with a white background.
How do I start drawing on a transparent background in Paint.NET?
I will save the image as a PNG file.
Try Paint.NET for size. I tried GimpShop before, but did not like it. Paint.NET is to MS Paint what Notepad++ is to Notepad :)
To change an image to have a transparent background:
AlphaMask.dll to \Paint.NET\Effects (note you will likely need to unblock the file)Effects Menu > Alpha Mask...Invert Mask, check Mix Alpha, leave checked Paste from ClipboardOKFile Menu > Save as, save as type PNG (*.png)OK one last timeThe Magic wand is your friend. Things of note? Use the contiguous not global setting. Play with the tolerances - I went with 70 percent to knock some of the antialising off. I picked a larger area to work on but you can/should just zoom in when working. Having a black background layer is a nice way to check if your cropping is fine.

you could probably magic wand the white background, and delete it, or create a new layer, and hid the background before saving it.
