In Firefox, by Ctrl+F a small search box is opened and one can search through the page.
If this box is still under focus, by ESC on can close it.
But if this box is out of focus (for example if one clicks on some place of the webpage) the shortcut ESC for closing it does not work.
How to close this search box in this situation with a keyboard shortcut (i.e. without using the mouse)?
To be precise I use Firefox 49.0.1 on Win7.
X11 has multiple clipboards: Selecting text with the mouse fills the "Primary Selection" and clicking the middle button inserts it. For Ctrl-V/Ctrl-C most programs use the "Clipboard", Shift-Ins seems to sometimes use the Primary Selection, sometimes the Clipboard.
So it's easier to not use Shift-Ins but either the Mouse or Ctrl-V/Ctrl-C to copy text between different applications.
Update: This does not seem to be working anymore. Press ESC to move the cursor back into Google's search box.
If you search for something in Google Search …
… just begin typing again. For example, writing "unicorns", then " magic" (that is, space, then the next keyword) will automatically focus the search box again.
Note that you need to enable instant search from your settings:
Finally, you can also press ⇥ (Tab) to get a manual selection for the results – navigate through them with ↓ or ↑, and open them with ↩.
