Linux – How to adjust the mouse scroll wheel sensitivity

I just replaced my old Logitech mouse with a Microsoft Wireless Laser mouse, and the scrolling is too fast for my liking.

How can I adjust the scroll sensitivity?

I just updated to 10.04, but still don't see anything. Any changes?

This totally depends on which interface you are using. If you are using KDE check this out ~~if you are using Gnome check this out.~~

Currently in Gnome there is really no way to change this except in programs themselves. Example: Firefox's about:config you can change the mouse scroll by lines entry. From what I have read it is hard coded into either gtk or xorg.

Dont know where from this problem comes. but we can have an alternative solution to that. Depending on the drivers for your mouse, you could set ctrl-scroll as a "shortcut" to actually do nothing - essentially capturing the combination and throwing it away. Some drivers will even let you specify this for only within a certain application, at which point you'd specify chrome.

UPDATE - The solution

It looks like the zooming issue is related to mouse scrolling freeware. I took a look at a tool I run called "WizMouse." The purpose of these tools is to allow scrolling windows without focusing on them. Settings can be changed in these to fix the problem.

Resolutions:

KatMouse (per nsx82): Add class: Chrome_WidgetWin_1, and under the settings tick option: "Window has scrolling wheel support?" (try checked first)
WizMouse (per JoPa Mi): Uncheck "Enable mouse wheel for applications without mouse wheel support"

Apparently this could have something to do with using it along with Windows.

Taken from the Ubuntu Forum you can try:

Unplug the mouse receiver from the usb and then plug it back in (while running ubuntu). Whamo blamo you're fixed.
