How can Edge not automatically switch to new tab, when new tab is created

microsoft-edge

I want stay on current tab, like when I use Gleam on Internet Explorer. Has Edge truly failed to add setting or option to disable automatic switching to new tab? Are the forum posts under correct?

How Do You Automatically Switch To New Tab When Opened in Edge – Windows 10 Forums

When you open a new tab, either by clicking with the middle mouse button, CTRL + clicking the link or right-clicking link > Open in New Tab, how do you automatically switch to that new tab when you do this, like you could in Internet Explorer?

The only workaround I have found is by holding "Control + Shift" and click the link. Doesn't matter if it is middle mouse click or standard left click as long as "CNTL+SHIFT" is held in. It sucks but a temp fix till they fix it for good.

Go to Extensions in the Edge settings (...) and search for "Tab Activate". Works like a charm. But one has to question the whole Edge product if they can't figure out that when a person opens a new page, it is more likely than not that they would want to see that page. And the fact that a new tab page always shows Bing? How messed up is that? There is an extension "New Google Tab" that opens Google instead and some other extensions that supposedly allow you to customize what page opens. I have read reviews that Edge is better than Chrome but so far not impressed.
