Is there a way to have Chrome open focus on a new tab when there are pinned tabs already?
By default it seems that Chrome always opens with focus on the first Pinned tab
The picture shows where I'd like focus when I open Chrome.
When I open Chrome, the selected tab is always the first one (far left, the orange icon)
I want it to open and have the focus automatically on the new tab (google.ca)
It seems that for both Chrome and Firefox, the only solution is to unpin the tabs. The tabs should not have this behavior unless they are pinned, and the flash is due to a change in the title of the page.
An alternative is to use an extension like Stylish, which will allow you to modify the page template, potentially changing the title to a static value that does not change.
From reading the feature request Locking Pinned Tabs, I would assume that this is not possible in Chrome without extensions.
The thread mentions that extensions exist to achieve this. For example, Lock Tab.
After installation of the extension, you'll see a small lock icon in the address bar:
By clicking it, you'll lock the tab. If you then try to navigate away from it, you'll get the following message:
Additionally, you'll have the option to "freeze" locked pages. This causes any clicked links on a locked tab to be opened in a new tab:

As I stated above, there are discussions about this in the google newsgroup as well, the only really rather small/simple solution is this:
