I frequently use Cmd+click in Chrome to open a link in a new window. But sometimes my finger slips and I accidentally press the Option key instead of Cmd, which is the shortcut for downloading the link target.
Is there a hidden setting to disable this, or a Chrome extension that does it?
There's an advanced setting to pop up a save dialog for any download, but I expect this will affect intentional downloads as well. I would like to disable only the keyboard shortcut if possible.
Who defines whether the file will be downloaded or opened is the site developer. Naturally the file is opened in the browser, but if the developer force the HTML header below, will always be downloaded.
There is no way to force. :(

To open in browser, developer must declare:

You can disable these prompts from your Google account's permissions page:

Or go into your Google Account Settings and to the Security Tab. Here you will find a section "Signing in to other sites". Select the "Signing in with Google" link to get to your permissions site.

Allow Google to offer a faster way to sign in with your Google Account on supported third-party sites
Toggle off "Google Account sign-in prompts" to disable these prompts across the web.
Don't be fooled by the toggle since it currently doesn't seem to display the toggle state correctly. Click it once and refresh.

There is no way to do it with chrome settings, but you can use this extension to map option+click to nothing or to open a link in a new window. Tell us if it works.
