Firefox – How to make Firefox save form data for websites that specifically disallow it

There are certain websites (ebanking, universities, etc.) that do not allow the browser to save form data as a security precaution.

Please recommend a good Firefox plugin or a setting that will allow me to store username/password fields on those sites, so I don't have to enter it every time.

I was able to get around this restriction using the LastPass password manager and it's associated Firefox Plugin. It's able to save log-in information from websites that FireFox alone would not. It'll also save other form-fill items like address, phone number, etc, if you wish, as well as generate and save very secure passwords for you, semi-automatically. I highly recommend it.

OK so here is another answer I think is more convenient that the Javascript one.

First go to your Firefox components folder, by default in my case it's "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components"

Now open the file nsLoginManager.js

Go to the function at around line 804 (varies with version of Firefox), that reads:

/*
 * _isAutoCompleteDisabled

 * Returns true if the page requests autocomplete be disabled for the
 * specified form input.
 */
_isAutocompleteDisabled :  function (element) {
    if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&
        element.getAttribute("autocomplete").toLowerCase() == "off")
        return true;

    return false;
},

Now comment out the first 3 lines, so it ends up like this:

 * _isAutoCompleteDisabled
 *
 * Returns true if the page requests autocomplete be disabled for the
 * specified form input.
 */
_isAutocompleteDisabled :  function (element) {
    /*if (element && element.hasAttribute("autocomplete") &&

    return false;

Save it, restart Firefox and you should be good to go...

you can see saved passwords (depending on OS) in the options/preferences under security - saved passwords. Saved passwords are stored in a hidden folder C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(X#X#X#X#X#X#X).default where X#X#X#X#X# is unique. They are the key3.db file and the signings.sqlite file
