Firefox – How to get Firefox to show text/xml as plain text

There couldn't possibly be any use in current behaviour of stripping all tags and displaying non-tag text as one big block.

Any way to get it to display useful content? It would be amazing if it would have highlighting etc., but just displaying it as plain text should be good enough.

The View Source command will do exactly what you want.

It can be found from the right click context menu inside of Firefox (image found from Google search):

Edit the file C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\res\viewsource.css
Add the line font-family: monospace; to the *|*:root block.
Restart Firefox.

Example (truncated file):

Convert Atom XML to plain text

Here is a sample Atom to HTML XSLT stylesheet: http://snippets.dzone.com/posts/show/1162

If you attach it to your XML file like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="my-atom-to-html-stylesheet.xsl"?>
...

..then opening the XML in a modern browser will produce nice readable text.

If you change <xsl:output method="html"/> to <xsl:output method="text"/> and remove all the extra markup in the style sheet then you will get pure text output.
