A quick google search didn't give me the answer, I only learned how to manage the Top Sites.
It might be useful to customize the Top Sites feature depending on the size of your screen; either you want less Top Sites; giving you bigger thumbnails or more sites to – well – have more available.
There's a little square on the upper right of the tab page that says "Hide the new tab page" if you hover over it. If you click it, the tab page goes blank.
You can also disable the new tab page feature completely via the about:config page:

† Some captures (not technically screen shots) are just too large to handle. I have used Save Page As Image... Abduction Add-on and its selection-copy X-Ray + Copy... to paste the images below in my favorite image editing software for post-processing, without compromising on quality, some of them well over 100 MB as PNG.
