iterm2
I know that I can set my color scheme for iterm2 in Preferences -> Profiles -> Colors. I found a scheme that I like, but I can't remember which one it is, and the dropdown from which I selected it just says "Load Presets…".
Is there any way to find out what my current color scheme is?
I've been having the same issue and this is what seems to have solved it:
In your .bash_profile set CLICOLOR before setting TERM:
# Set CLICOLOR if you want Ansi Colors in iTerm2
export CLICOLOR=1
# Set colors to match iTerm2 Terminal Colors
export TERM=xterm-256color
save bash file and source:
source ~/.bash_profile
Then, in your iTerm2 Preferences > Profiles > Terminal > Report Terminal Type, set to either xterm-256color or xterm
Close iTerm2, restart it and type ls. That did the trick for me.

If using ZSH, which is the default shell in Catalina and later, use ~/.zprofile, instead of ~/.bash_profile.
This works on iTerm2 (version, 3.0.8 through 3.0.13)

It works across all panes and windows and its setting is persistent across sessions.

From what I can tell, there is a checkmark next to the current theme. But if you change anything, the checkmark goes away and your essentially creating a custom theme.
I tend to export the color and put into a personal settings directory. I backup this directory and put up on github. That may work for you.
If you import this exported theme file, then there will be a theme with the name of your file, and it will have a checkmark next to it. At least it does for me.
