I want to change the fill color of cell C5 if it has the same value as cell A5.
Can this be done? I know how to format cell C5 if it has a certain value – but not when it is to be compared to the value of another cell.

Select the cell you want to format, “A1″ in this example.
In the Home tab, Styles group, click on Conditional Formatting.
Select New Rule.
The New Formatting Rule window will open.
Click Use a formula to determine which cells to format.
The New Formatting Rule window will now look like this:
In the edit box labeled “Format values where this formula is true“, enter “=” followed by a formula referencing the other cell. In this example the formula: “=B1<0″ is entered.
Click the Format button. The Format Cells window will open.
Specify the formatting you want. In this example I changed the cell color to “RED”.
Click OK to close The Format Cells window.
Click OK to close The New Formatting Rule window.
To summarize this example: cell A1 will have a RED color when cell B1 value is less than zero.

- Select cells C15 to N15
- click Home > Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Use a formula to determine which cells to format
- enter this formula
=$M15="yes"
- select a format, for example green fill and close all dialogs
- keep the cells selected and enter another rule with the formula
=$M15="no"
- select a format, for example a red fill and close all dialogs.
You can now copy the cells and use Paste special > Formats to copy the conditional formatting to other rows.

Select the C5 cell and go to Home, Conditional Formatting. Choose "Manage Rules" and create a New Rule.
The new rule type is "format only cells that contain". The Rule Description should be "Cell Value equal to =$A$5". Then set the formatting you'd like on the cell.
