I have a Lenovo Z510 Ideapad. I find I can’t enter bios to change settings, when I turn on my laptop, I press F2 or Fn+F2 or F1 to enter BIOs, but have no luck
I have also been trying to run system from Lenovo OneKey Recovery (Novo button) and the BIOs menu item will appear but when I click on it a black screen will appear and it doesn’t do anything. I even updated the BIOs with a download from Lenovo’s site but it seems to have no effect.
This new UEFI boot scheme is very confusing, I know. Fortunately with the latest Lenovo laptops you don't need to disable secure boot, nor do you need to disable fastboot, nor do you need legacy mode. You don't need any of that. At least for Ubuntu 12 and up.

The only thing that excellent answer does not address is how to get to the point of booting from USB stick, on your Lenovo. The trick (I happen to discover this all by myself, simply by noticing an option not available in other instructions sets):
[Shift]+Restart > Use USB Devices > USB Stick
Why doing a Shut Down and Power On again can't get you into BIOS?
Windows 8.x doesn't really shut down the laptop completely, but puts it into hibernation state. This is called "hybrid shutdown", and was invented to speedup subsequent Windows startup. The F2 prompt on startup, only appears from a true cold boot.
How to get into BIOS in Win8.x?
Restart the computer. Restart ignores hybrid shutdown so the computer does an "actual" restart.
Hold the shift key while pressing Shut Down. This forces the system to do a true shutdown.
Now if you plan on entering BIOS for quite a few times, you can disable Hybrid Shutdown.
Go to Power Options>Choose what closing the lid does. Click Change Settings that are currently unavailable then uncheck Turn on Fast Startup.
You will be able to enter the BIOS in subsequent startups. The downside to this is, of course, you won't bootup as fast as if Fast Startup were enabled.
