ASUS UX31A keyboard backlight turns off after the lid is closed and reopened

Close the lid and then open later and the keyboard backlight turns off. The fn+f4 key does not turn it back on. I have to restart the laptop to get the keyboard backlight back on. Is there a workaround?

Update: Here's the response I got from ASUS:

For your issue,there is not a way to control the backlight,it will be turn on/off automatically as the sorrounding.If you can not use the FN+F3/FN+F4 to adjust the backlight of the keyboard,the only way is restarting the laptop.

The ASUS support team helped me fix this. The two drivers that they told me to install were Chipset Version V9.3.0.1021, and ATKACPI Driver Version V1.0.0025.

After installing those two drivers everything works great!

This is for Windows 8.1 (on the ASUS UX31A).

In my Kubuntu the right place is /sys/class/leds/.

# ls /sys/class/leds/
dell::kbd_backlight  input4::capslock  input4::numlock  input4::scrolllock  phy0-led  xpad0

Most certainly, if your Metoo Zero backlight is there, it will be something other than dell::kbd_backlight, so the below commands are just examples.

# ls "/sys/class/leds/dell::kbd_backlight"
brightness  device  max_brightness  power  start_triggers  stop_timeout  subsystem  trigger  uevent
# cat "/sys/class/leds/dell::kbd_backlight/max_brightness"
2

This number suggests my backlight has three states. I can run (as root):

# echo 0 > "/sys/class/leds/dell::kbd_backlight/brightness"
# echo 1 > "/sys/class/leds/dell::kbd_backlight/brightness"
# echo 2 > "/sys/class/leds/dell::kbd_backlight/brightness"

It turned out the states are: 0=off, 1=dimmed, 2=bright.

If it works for you, make your Linux execute the appropriate command before it shuts down (I believe the way to do it is distribution-dependent).
