MacOS – Apple Magic Mouse Interference from Heavy Processing

I have discovered that my Apple Magic Mouse seems to 'stutter' and become less responsive during periods when my macbook pro is doing heavy processing. For example now when I am installing Xcode 4.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem before?

I have not ever encountered this myself but I think that if you cut down on the applications you are running in the background when doing the processor heavy task you can somewhat fix the issue.

With kernel 2.6.34 the Magic Mouse driver is included, so scrolling should just work(tm).

I have Ubuntu 10.04 and updated to linux-image-2.6.35-23-generic, and scrolling is working without any other configuration. It doesn't look like 2.6.35 is available in karmic-backports or updates. So you would either have to upgrade to 10.04 or 10.10 or build your own kernel.

Summary:

rmmod hid_magicmouse; modprobe hid_magicmouse scroll-speed=45 scroll-acceleration=1

Once you've adjusted the scroll speed and acceleration to your liking:

echo "options hid_magicmouse scroll-speed=45 scroll-acceleration=1" \
    > /etc/modprobe.d/magicmouse.conf

This improves the scroll speed and acceleration, but it does not scroll quite like it does on Mac. Specifically, it does not have the smooth inertia/momentum effect that causes the scrolling to "coast" to a stop when you flick your finger across the surface. Instead it jerks to a stop immediately when you lift your finger off the mouse.
