I would like to force specific domains (say facebook or twitter) to always open in Chrome instead of Firefox which is my default browser.
There is an extension called "Open With" which can be used to manually reopen a page on another browser. Is there any way to automatically force this behaviour?
Choosy does exactly this (among other things).
Forget the default browser, Choosy opens links in the right browser. When you click on a link Choosy will do the right thing, whether that's something simple (like using whatever browser is already running) or something complex (like prompting you to pick a browser, but only when you hold down the shift key and click on a link to google.com).
You didn't mention which OS you use but you can make an OS shortcut to launch your URL. In nearly all versions of Windows, right-click on the desktop and select new -> shortcut then enter iexplore.exe followed by the URL like so:
That should open in IE just fine.
UPDATE
To make this work with a shortcut key you simply need to assign a shortcut key to it. You do this by right clicking the shortcut and selecting Properties.
You need to pick a shortcut combination that is otherwise unused. The shortcut must also be on the desktop or start menu for this to work.
Alternatively, you can put the shortcut on your quick launch bar. If you do this you must use the key combination of Win + 1 - 0 to launch it depending on it's order in the quick launch bar (the first items is 1 and the 10th is 0).

I use an addon called IE view that does this. It allows you to use any browser you want, and only uses IE if you don't tell it to use something else.
As you can see I have told it to use Chrome
