Amazon Oracle RDS – Default Password for SYSTEM

I can only remember setting these parameters and definitely not the password for SYSTEM:

DB Instance Identifier = mydbinstanceidentifier
Master Username = mymasterusername
Master Password = mymasterpassword

The SYS user, SYSTEM user, and other administrative accounts are locked and cannot be used More

The Amazon documentation for Oracle on Amazon RDS says you have to use master user which has the DBA privilege and other users like SYS and SYSTEM are locked by default and cannot be used.

SYSDBA privilege is not available for customer in Amazon RDS so Amazon EC2 might be a better choice for you and can have full control over the database and high privileged user like SYS and SYSTEM user.

Here is the Oracle 11.2 installation document describing the administrator user accounts after installation. Once logged in, you would change passwords with the syntax

alter user system identified by mynewpassword;

Note the SYS and SYSTEM accounts are assigned the DBA role. The DBA role does not have a password, the accounts do. The DBA role is created with every installation. You could grant the DBA role to another user if needed.

Then, in order to prevent a ridiculous rollover rate in the logs:
