MySQL – pt-heartbeat Showing ‘Host is Blocked’ Error Despite Low Connections

I'm running MySQL in a master-slave configuration. pt-heartbeat is showing "Host is blocked because of many connection errors"…but connections are well under limit (limit is 600 connections, MySQL workbench shows I'm hovering around 250, and I'm having no other problems connecting).

Here is my CLI, running from the master:

PTDEBUG=1 pt-heartbeat --host="mysql-slave" --user=root --ask-pass --database="percona" --monitor --master-server-id="14"

Any ideas? Should I run the suggested 'mysqladmin flush-hosts' as PTDEBUG suggests? I just don't feel that's the problem if I'm below the limit and not seeing this anywhere else.

If 'host_name' is blocked because of many connection errors. then to Unblock only options mysqladmin flush-hosts

The advice you've seen about max_connections is a distraction from the issue you're seeing, because it has nothing to do with connection errors.

You can log the failed connections to the mysql error log by issuing this:

SET GLOBAL log_warnings = 2;

You can also make this a permanent setting in my.cnf so that it persists after a restart.

MySQL – Design for Active/Passive Master-Master Setup

I will start with only 2 server with an active/passive master-master setup and a loadbalancer in front. I don't see any benifits for the cluster and I don't want a 3rd node or the active master waiting for any other nodes.
