Sql-server – SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn cannot connect using the Listener IP

I have setup a Windows network in an Amazon in a VPC. I have setup two SQL servers and configured Always On. Everything works OK, except that I cannot connect to the SQL Server using the AAG Listener IP from any other computer in the network except from the Primary Node.

I also cannot ping the Listener IP or the Cluster IP.

For the servers the IPS are specified on the NIC.

DC: 10.0.0.100
SQL1: 10.0.0.90
SQL2: 10.0.0.92
Cluster: 10.0.0.80
AAG ListenerL: 10.0.0.82

Any ideas?

I got a response from Amazon

"Cluster IPs aren't supported in VPC at this time."

You should not need to specify the port for a named instance (that's kind of the point of the name - and since it's dynamic you won't want to hard-code a port into your connection strings etc. unless you want to change your config files every time the port changes). Try connecting to:

123.123.123.123\SQLEXPRESS

Also make sure that your server is exposed to the Internet on that port (firewalls may be preventing this) and that the SQL Browser service is running.

PS Ping means nothing. You need to try to telnet to the port that SQL Server is exposed on.

After I reset all the settings and re-created the environment, the problem went away. So the problem was perhaps very specific to local situation and not general to a linked server to AAG. I appreciate all those who commented.
