Sql-server – Problem Connecting Report Server to Report Server Database in SSRS

I have configured Reporting Services on one Server and have the ReportServerDb and ReportServerTempDb on other server (Future requirement of scale out deployment).

I am connecting to these servers using a domain account. I have configured Reporting Services using ReportingServiceConfiguration Wizard and it seems to have worked fine except that the Initialization tab does not have the green tick in front (not initialized).

The error I get is:

The report server cannot open a connection to the report server
database. The logon failed. (rsReportServerDatabaseLogonFailed) Get
Online Help Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested
logon type at this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)

The domain account I have used is perfectly fine and I am able to connect using SSMS (No Password errors). I have searched through many a blogs, forums etc, but have not been able to find a solution.

Re-run through the database configuration part to select the same database and it will re-issue the grants to make sure the permissions are in place, but make sure the account you run the wizard with has sysadmin access to the instance. If it's 2005 you can generate the grant script but it's kind of buggy.

To take the Reporting Services databases out of commission on this server without disrupting the service itself, you'll need to point the service to databases elsewhere. To do this, open Reporting Services Configuration Manager on the server running the RS service, and change the "Database Name" entry in the Database menu page:

To shut down the Report Manager web portal, open up the RSReportServer.config file. This is located in the install directory (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\[Instance Name]\Reporting Services\ReportServer).

Under the <Service> element, there will be several elements that begin with "Is". These control which services/functions are enabled. The last entry will be <IsReportManagerEnabled>.

Change this value from True to False. Save the file and close.

Some changes to RSReportServer.config require a service restart, so you may have to restart the RS service to get this change to stick. Once it does, the RS service will no longer respond to requests to the Report Manager portal but the separate web service that processes report requests will continue running.

Yes you can run SSRS with a Managed Service Account.

I would double check that your MSA is installed on your SSRS server. You can do so with Powershell.

Get-ADServiceAccount -identity msaname -properties hostcomputers |select hostcomputers

If your SSRS server is not listed, you will need to install the MSA on the server. This needs to be run locally (on SSRS server). You MUST be domain admin to run Install-ADServiceAccount successfully.

Install-ADServiceAccount msaname
