Sql-server – Enable Lock Pages in Memory for SQL Server on VM

As I see, you're using a 32 bit system, so please follow the information from this MSDN article: Do I have to assign the Lock Pages in Memory privilege for Local System?. It's from MS's own CSS team.

Quote from it: "If you are using 32bit systems, the messages and algorithm are slightly different. The message you should look for in the ERRORLOG is the following:

Address Windowing Extensions is enabled

If the privilege was not set correctly, you will see this message:

Could not use Address Windowing Extensions because the 'lock pages in memory' privilege was not granted.

These messages will NOT show up for 32bit systems unless the configuration value 'awe enabled' is set to 1. The second message can show up if the "Lock Pages in Memory" privilge was changed after successfully configuring AWE and then the privilige was cleared OR you used RECONFIGURE WITH OVERRIDE and the privilige was not set. "

The AWE mechanism in 32 bit process can only be used for data pages (buffer pool). It cannot be used for procedure cache, for query memory grants, for execution stacks, for access token cache, for CLR etc etc etc, basically all the other allocations other than data pages. All these allocations (including code pages) have to cram in the 2GB of the process address space.

Your only solution worth considering is moving to a 64bit SQL Server deployment on a 64bit OS. Everything else is a waste of time.

The SQL Server buffer pool can fully utilize AWE mapped memory; however, only database pages can be dynamically mapped to and unmapped from SQL Server's virtual address space and take full advantage of memory allocated through AWE. AWE does not directly help supporting additional users, threads, databases, queries, and other objects that permanently reside in the virtual address space.
