Any command to show the usage of a command or a SQL statement?

Such as (though none works here):

.help schema
.help .schema
.help INSERT
.help SELECT

Besides the overview shown by .help, the is no more information in the shell.

You have to use the on-line documentation of the shell or the SQL language.

I was running the query inside python 2.7.10, which comes with sqlite 3.8.3.1. It turns out that if I run this directly with the sqlite 3.8.10.2 that comes with OSX, it works fine.

I upgraded my python sqlite to 3.9.1 and it works now.

SQLite Query – Find Rows Nearest to Hour

time_stamp - 1800 subtracts two numbers. If the value in the time_stamp column is not a number, it is converted.

From what you've shown, converting the values in the time_stamp column (which begin with the characters 2015) to a number results in the value 2015; subtracting 1800 from that results in 215. This is probably not what you want.

To group by hours offset by half an hour, just add half an hour to the timestamp, then drop the minutes/seconds:

GROUP BY strftime('%H', time_stamp, '+30 minutes')
