I hope that somebody here can suggest me a way to make the TAB key indent a text selection (i.e., could be multi-line and not just one line) in Xcode.
In Xcode preferences, I set TAB as the shortcut for the "Shift right" function but it does not work: instead of indenting, it deletes the text.

You can disable the keyboard shortcuts for slow-motion effects by following these instructions:
Open Terminal.
Open the plist file in your user's library preferences folder that contains the setting by typing open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist and hit return.
A window similar to this will open in Xcode:
For items 34, 35, and 37, set enabled to NO.
Close the file, click Save if prompted, and restart your system.
Enjoy.
Note: 34 and 35 may not be present in the plist if you have never opened the Mission Control preferences pane and changed the "Mission Control" or "Application windows" settings. If 37 isn't present either, simply add it yourself.
This process has been tested with:
Mac doesn't use the cursor position if you have a multiple text selection, it considers the cursor is at 'all selected text'.
You can see this demonstrated if you use Cmd ⌘ Shift ⇧ ← instead of →
Adding to the selection with Shift ⇧ includes the previous selection.
Not a fix, but a workaround might be → which would move the cursor to the end of your current selection, simultaneously deselecting it, then Cmd ⌘ Shift ⇧ ← to select to the beginning of the line.

You can use BetterTouchTool to rebind TAB ⇥ key to ⌘ CMD+] only for Xcode.app. BetterTouchTool can be downloaded here. This is how this should look like:
