For some reason I cannot edit the "Release Date" field in iTunes. I have been able to change it in the past, but it no longer saves changes.
I can edit the field, but changes are never saved. I'm running the latest version of iTunes on Windows (12.4.1.6). I have completely rebuilt my entire iTunes library but still the problem persists.
How did you add the music to iTunes? Did you drag and drop it into the iTunes windows itself or did you manually add the music to the local folder?
If you manually added the music to the to the local folder then you need to "re-sync" your iTunes library so that the music appears in iTunes application.
Just choose "Add Folder to Library" and choose your iTunes music folder so that it "re-syncs" your library and ALSO adds all the new songs to your list as well.
You can add songs manually to your iTunes music folder without them appearing in iTunes if you navigate to the iTunes music folder itself on your computer and just drop the music in. iTunes tells you in the preferences:
But all of this is irrelevant until you tell us how you added the music to your computer???????

Best I can tell, the answer is a resounding “no” — at least without deleting your iTunes Library .itl file.

You can "import" a TV show episode from the Windows system to your Mac, set the release date on the Mac and then copy it back to the Windows system. Not exactly a viable workaround for most but if you happen to have both platforms it may work until Apple gets their act together and starts to test their software before releasing it to their customers.
