I was recording my screen whilst giving a presentation. Instead of stopping the recording cleanly I closed the lid of my laptop. Later, when I opened it again, the recording had stopped, but there was no sign of the resulting file. Can anyone tell me where the recording may be stored on disk so I can recover it?

- record as usual
- when ready to pause, move your mouse over to the recording box and click anywhere to activate that box (the Quicktime Program)
- press "option button" on keyboard and the record bar will change to Pause ||
- BUT, this DOES NOT PAUSE the timer, to do that,click the Pause ||
- Now, it's truly PAUSED and you can let go of the "option" button
- Now, the record button turns RED, when in this mode, it's PAUSED
- To restart recording, simply click the RED button
- Do steps 2 to 7 all over again for another pause in your recording
Try the following:
- Turn off computer
- Reboot Mac into Recovery (press and hold Command+R when you hear the chimes until a screen loads)
- Select "Disk Utility"
- Select your "Macintosh HD" volume on the left and press "Repair Disk Permissions"
- Once that has finished, reboot your computer

In there, there is a container/package/directory called
Unsaved QuickTime Player Document.qtpxcompositionthat contains aScreen Recording.movfile with the actual video. You can copy-paste thatmovfile wherever to save it permanently.You can also double-click the
Unsaved QuickTime Player Documentfile directly. That file opens in QuickTime, and allows you to save in a proper place. Note that sometimes QuickTime will fail to save a Screen Recording with the error "The operation could not be completed" (usingFile > Export Asmight work, though), so copy-pasting is probably less prone to error.My battery ran out when I was recording and found my file there.
