VPN (PPTP) connection is working on iPhone but not on MacBook Pro

On the iPhone I have the same server address, user name, password and the encryption is for all data. Encryption mode is also set to automatic. The VPN to my WHS 2011 is working fine.

On the MacBook I have the same server address, user name and encryption is set to automatic (128/40 bit). In the authentication settings I have set the same password. But I get always username and password are wrong. I tried to set encryption to none, encryption to all my data but nothing changes.

The only idea I came up with is that the special characters in my password are not supported. But I don't know if thats the problem. Ok I tried it with another account and now it works … But why?

As I thought the special characters were the problem. I also updated to 10.9.4 but the behavior was the same. It works on the iPhone but not on the Mac ... I would not recommend to use special characters. What is security?

I think the unerlying issue is that Yosemite will not load kext (kernel extensions) unless they are signed by an authorized kernel extension developer. However in 10.8 and earlier, kexts could not be signed and signed kexts for 10.9+ will not load in <10.9.

I experienced the same issue loading unsigned tuntaposx for the vpnc cisco client.

You can override this behavior and allow the cpfw.kext to load in Yosemite by putting your computer into kext developer mode. This essentially reverts to the 10.9 behavior by allowing unsigned kexts to load.

sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

Now reboot and your kext should load.

You can revert by doing this:

sudo nvram -d boot-args

Sorry for being untechnical, but I solved a VPN/Yosemite issue: After a smaller Upgrade my VPN still connected, but didn’t let anything thru. The Update somehow „unchecked“ System Preferences > Network > VPN(PPTP) > More…/Options > Connecting Option > Send all traffic through VPN Connection (third option in the first list in this dialog; I'm translating/guessing from the german version). Setting it back to let everything go through resolved all issues; Mail, afp, ftp, vnc came back just like that.
