Ny way to get the Multi-Safari version of Safari 2 working on Snow Leopard

Michel Fortin’s Multi-Safari actually makes it possible to test websites in old versions of Safari, should you feel the need.

Unfortunately, the Multi-Safari version of Safari 2 doesn’t quite work properly in Snow Leopard. For me, it worked for a few minutes. Then, for no apparent reason, it stopped loading web pages — the progress bar would stay stuck at a fairly short length, and the status bar would say it was waiting for the web site.

Is there any way to get it working reliably on Snow Leopard?

Safari 2, sorry, why would you need to test for that? It's REALLY not in use by anyone anymore.

Anyway, the best way I can think of running it is to virtualise an earlier version of OS X - Tiger or Jaguar.

It does run, but Snow Leopard does not install Rosetta by default. Rosetta is needed to run PowerPC applications on Intel Macs.

You can install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard disk. I believe you will be prompted to do this when you try to run Photoshop.

How to get “wget” for Snow Leopard

Alternatively, if you don't need wget specifically, Snow Leopard does come with curl which does many of the same things.

E.g., fetching your flair via wget:

wget http://apple.stackexchange.com/users/flair/2726.png

vs. fetching it with curl:

curl -O http://apple.stackexchange.com/users/flair/2726.png

Notably lacking from curl is wget's --mirror option, but it does have nifty fetching with patterns, which handles many of the same problems:

# Fetch flair images for users 2726 through 2730
curl -O http://apple.stackexchange.com/users/flair/[2726-2730].png
