MacOS – Why Safari 10 bar search is so slow in Mac OS Sierra

It seems that one of the surprises with Safari 10 on Mac OS Sierra is that it takes ages to perform a search using the search bar (using Google as default search engine).

It takes on average even more than 5 seconds to open the new search tab with google results.

I would rule out a system issue because I reinstalled the entire OS from scratch less than a week ago. This issue didn't change at all.

The only extensions that I am using are 1Password, LastPas and 1Blocker.

I tried using the search on private mode and it seems to get the same slow results so it should not be related to extensions.

Can I make it 1 second? On Chrome it works well.

Try selecting from the Menu Bar, Safari/Preferences/Search and deselect "Enable Quick Website Search". That appears to have solved some of my issues, although it can still be slow at times.

I would check to make sure you don't have any extensions installed that might be causing issues. Also, you can try "Reset Safari..." and "Empty Cache...", both under the application menu. If neither of these work, you can download a new copy of Safari and replace the one currently in your /Applications folder.

After that, make a reservation at your closest Apple Retail Store and see what a Genius says.

How to prevent Safari 6.0.2 unexpected crashes in Mountain Lion

Open the Terminal app (found in /Applications/Utilties/).
Copy the following as one line (from “curl” through “.pkg”) and paste it into the Terminal window after the “$ ” prompt:

curl -O http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/37/23/041-5058/lr5tynbldi18zcrqo8a8uq88 rnjushqliu/Safari6Lion.pkg

then hit return.

You should see it count down the time. When it stops, look in your home folder (the one with the little house and your user name) for “Safari6Lion.pkg”. Double-click to launch the installer.

Here is an alternative solution that seems to be working for several users, especially those who have somehow managed to install more than one WebKit framework:

Open Finder and navigate to: /System/Library/StagedFrameworks/Safari/ Drag WebKit.framework to the trash
Run software update and install Safari > do not launch safari after it is installed
Restart computer
Launch Safari
