Some TIFFs can't be exported to PNG in Preview. What is preventing this and how do I correct it?

Ok, here's what you need to do:
Open up the first PNG image in Preview. Make sure the side bar is showing.
Open the second image in Preview, and from the sidebar, drag the thumbnail image from the second window to the first window's sidebar.
Now, you'll notice that the title bar says "2 documents, 2 total pages." Continue dragging images into the first image until all the images are combined into one PNG. Make sure you save it. :-)
If you hold down alt/option when you click the format dropdown in the export menu, you can still select GIF in Mountain Lion. Once you have done this, you can continue with the normal animated gif creation process:
- Save your image as a GIF
- Show the sidebar
- Drag additional frames on top of the thumbnail

This happens when the image is in CMYK.
PNG does not support the CMYK color mode therefore Preview won't suggest it for the export.
