MacOS – Tasks needing admin password (Finder, Installer) hang with beachball for minutes

Taks needing and admin password, like deleting certain files in the Finder or running an application installer, hang for minutes with a beachball. After a couple of minutes the dialog asking for an admin password appears finally.

Once the window finally appears it also takes a minute to be usable. After I entered the password everything works just fine.

The same also happens when trying to mount a disk image with a password. It takes minutes for the password window to show up.

I can't see anything happen in Activity Monitor. CPU usage is low and RAM is plentiful. Other applications continue to run quickly.

OS X 10.10.2

MacBookPro11,3 2.8 GHz i7 16 GB RAM

In order to eliminate the User profile problem, log in as different user and check.

I would also repair the System permissions (in disk Utility) and the User permissions (the ACLs)

This is normal, and an inherent consequence of the way sudo handles its 5-minute don't-need-to-reauthenticate window. When you authenticate to sudo, it records your account as having authenticated. Because the authentication is tied to your account (not a Terminal session or something like that), it's still valid if you quit & reopen Terminal, log out & back in, or even switch to a different session type (e.g. console login vs. SSH session vs. cron job running as your user ID, etc). I'm not certain offhand if it survives a reboot -- if not, it's because there's a step in the system startup process that wipes the timestamp files.

BTW, you can clear your own timestamp file with sudo -K.

MacOS – Hard disk performance drastically declined after OS X Lion upgrade

Ok, I bought a new Harddisk (Samsung 640GB) and cloned the old HD with SuperDuper. After Spotlight has re-indexed the drive I have the following benchmarks:

Sequential Write: 60  MB/s, 25 MB/s
Sequential Read:  17 MB/s, 69 MB/s
Random Write:  1.5 MB/s, 24 MB/s
Random Read:   0.5 MB/s, 19 MB/s

I don't know if the HD or it's controller is damaged, but now the performance of my system is ok again!
