MacOS – System Preferences search no longer highlights possible matches

Spotlight would mark matches when searching in system preferences are no longer appearing. I have "System Preferences" enabled in Spotlight prefs. I have searched for a solution to this, no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How long have you waited since checking the box? It can take some to re-index. Or you may need to force a re-indexing. You can do this in terminal by deleting the index and rebuilding it. This may take a while. Go to Terminal in Utilities folder and cut/paste this into the command line:

sudo mdutil -E /

This is a very popular issue. VNC server is not the only thing that has problem working with Lion.

I think the problem stems from the fact that; Lion can handle multiple user connections. So to make it work, you need to logout of your Mac first then try connecting remotely. More information in this forum..

it sounds like someone has deleted your shortcuts or hit a restore defaults button.

I recommend that you

setup time machine to save your preferences each hour. then you can use it to restore your preferences. that should help you identify the problem.
setup a shortcut that you will use daily (maybe ⌥, to pull up system preferences)
