I was trying to set the iTerm and tmux integration and found that panes could be displayed as iTerm2 window splits, if I run tmux -CC. But there is a problem, this 'simulation' of tmux does not have the status line, at least I was not able to find manual how to accomplish that.
If you know the way to do that, please, tell me how, thanks!
If you're serious about terminal work, I would suggest looking at tmux, especially as new builds of iTerm 2 come with it precompiled in (though I use the 'vanilla' version). In your case, if you were using tmux you could detach the current session from the window you're in, and then reattach in a new one (i.e., full screen), or just have multiple windows attached to the same session. There are some other advantages to using tmux, but I'm sure you'll discover them as you're using the program more.
Alternatively, have iTerm show the tab bar even if you only have one tab (make sure Appearance > Hide tab bar… is unchecked), and then you can 'pull' the tab out into its own window to continue using it.
I recommend Solarized if you're looking for a fully-realized lower contrast pastel(-ish) colour scheme. Setting files for iTerm are included in the package.

Showing a status bar is currently not supported on iTerm2. A version of the status bar is coming to iTerm2 3.3.
But I am not sure if it will pick up the
powerline-statusbar instead of its own duringtmuxsessions.
