MacOS – Reset or Uninstall Yosemite Server

I installed Yosemite Server and I had previously configured the Apache for web development. Now, It seems that the configuration and everything is messed up.

How can I reset my web server configuration to factory settings, like after installing a fresh Yosemite?

Does an uninstall of Yosemite Server affects my current web server configuration?

You can reset just the Websites service in OS X Server with the following command:

sudo serveradmin command web:command=restoreFactorySettings

Make sure the Websites and Wiki services are off when you run this command.

Uninstalling OS X Server will, by default, retain all configuration files so that reinstallation keeps all data, however you can delete the Server folder to reset all the data.

I've done some experimentation in order to answer my own question...

Firstly, I've only gotten the virtual named host kludge working with Passenger, not the new Lion scheme, but hey, it's a start...

Firstly, follow the Apple temporary fix, as linked in the question.

Then, the following works for me to support two virtual named hosts, implemented using Passenger and Rails. I derived this by taking the Lion virtual host example, and merging in my Snow Leopard config.

Disclaimer this works, but needs improvement. I've not got SSL working yet.

Add the following in a file named 0000_any_80_.conf

MacOS – Preferred Location for cgi executables in Lion Server

OS X being an unix-based system, you may use the standard unix file structure for that.

Generally speaking, most unix/linux distros use /var/www/ for web server storage, you could imagine something like /var/www/html for pages and media and /var/www/cgi-bin for cgi executables.

There are others locations available (/srv for example), see this list on wikipedia for an explanation on the directory structure (if needed)
