I am trying to change the default size of my icons and their grid spacing as was asked in this question. For whatever reason, my Mac does not have a Use as Defaults box in Show View Options. Do you have any idea why it doesn't or what, if anything, I can do to make it so it does?
I checked the answer given to this similar question, but believe I am already in the correct view, as evidenced below. Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Here is the simple reason:
You are in this view and it does not have the Default, it is already default.
Switch to list view to set the defaults for it.
This sounds like you have messed up your permissions.
To restore them use the
Make sure that all the permissions are correct on your home folder.
You can use the ACL tool on the Recovery HD to do this:
- Boot into the Recovery HD using ⌘R.
- Run
resetpasswordin Terminal (available from Utilities → Terminal).- Select your account from the drop-down list.
- Click the Reset button for Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs.

Unfortunately this method does require reboot.

All My Files isn't a folder, it's a special view in Finder. Navigate to a real folder such as your Documents folder and the View Options window will show a Use as Defaults button then.
