MacOS – MacBook Pro disk utility – disk0s2 not mounted

I am trying to erase all data from my laptop and reinstall OS X before I trade in.

I erased all data on Macintosh HD but now when I go to reinstall OS X there is no hard drive appearing when prompted to select a hard drive to install OS X. I go back to disk utility and Macintosh HD is gone, it has been replaced with disk0s2 which is not mounted.

Here is a picture of my disk utility. I am not sure how to fix this issue so I can get OS X reinstalled.

Select the parent of disk0s2 in Disk Utility and try the erase operation again, at least twice if it doesn't work first time. If that works, proceed with the reinstallation of OS X.

Basically you have a CoreStorage Logical Volume Group without a CoreStorage Logical Volume now. You may delete your Logical Volume Group (-> step 4) or restore a Logical Volume (-> step 7).

Requirements: Booted to Recovery Mode

Please quit Disk Utility.
Open Utilities/Terminal in the menubar

Enter diskutil cs list and hit enter. The output will look like this:

CoreStorage logical volume groups (1 found)

    Name:         Macintosh HD
    Status:       Online

To delete the Logical Volume Group enter:
```
diskutil cs delete lvgUUID 
```
The lvgUUID is the UUID of the Logical Volume Group and usually the first listed.
In the above example:
```
diskutil cs delete 5B8350BF-20EF-4199-82E6-129EFF19E9EB
```
This will delete your CoreStorage LVG and reformat it as an unencrypted HFS+ volume.
Enter exit, hit enter and quit Terminal
Open Disk Utility to format your disk like you want.
After step 3 you may create alternatively a new CoreStorage Logical Volume in your orphaned LVG by entering:
```
diskutil cs createVolume lvgUUID jhfs+ NewVolName Size
```
Using the above example
```
diskutil cs createVolume 5B8350BF-20EF-4199-82E6-129EFF19E9EB jhfs+ MyMac 100%
```
would create a new full sized (≈ 249.5 GB) Journaled HFS+ volume with the name 'MyMac'

Sory to say that it looks like you had a major disk crash of some sort. If Disk Utility can't fix it and Diskwarrior also can't repair it it is likely that some or all of your data is corrupted/damaged or just plain gone.

The file names you mention "file000001.png" and the like are indicative of some serious issue and the files on your drive have been assigned alternate names just to show you that they are there. they can probably be opened (probably) but it is unlikely the original name is anywhere to be found. it is also likely that the same has happened to all the files on the HD.

A professional data recovery specialist might be able to restore the disk or get you an image of the disk but that kind of service is very expensive. If you can get these files off the drive, I would do so, especially if you don't have a backup.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your description of your symptoms don't paint a pretty picture. Hopefully you have a backup. If so, wipe the drive and restore the OS and your files.
