MacOS – Kerberos password

First of all, I have no idea how Kerberos ended up in my Mac. I have tried to reset its password but I don't even know what is the ID to use. So, please how do I reset Kerberos password when I have no clue about which server it is connecting to?

I am running El Capitan 10.11.3 on MacBook Pro.

Open keychain access, from the Keychain Access menu select Ticket Viewer. There you will see your kerberos tickets which you can select and then hit the Change Password button.

This assumes that you know the current password. If you don't, then you may need to provide more details in order to get help.

Disable Kerberos / Single Sign-on

To disable Kerberos, open Terminal at Mac mini and enter the following command:

sudo sso_util remove -k -a username -p password -r YOUR.KERBEROS.REALM

Replace username, password with the user name and password of the Open Directory administrator (user/password with admin rights on Mac mini). It seems that YOUR.KERBEROS.REALM is "LKDC".

The Open Directory Overview pane of Server Admin (at Mac mini) should show the Kerberos service status as stopped.

MacOS – What password does OSX Server use when importing SSL certificates

The actually "certificate" itself is not encrypted. Your private key, which is used with the certificate, is usually encrypted. It is encrypted with the passphrase you chose when you created the private key. You might have done that a while earlier than creating this specific certificate, if you have multiple certificates - so be sure to try "old passwords" if you have them.

If you cannot remember the passphrase for your private key, you're out of luck. You will not be able to use that specific certificate anymore. The certificate issuer will not be able to provide you with a copy of the private key, as they haven't got it.

Usually you will be able to revoke your existing certificate and get your issuer to give you a new one - depending on your issuer that might come with a charge.

As you can buy new SSL certificates for less than 10$ today, it might not be worth the hassle to try and get the old one working. Just buy a new one.
