After upgraded to El Capitan, the image in Finder preview are overlapped by the filename, e.g.:

You can disable Icon preview in the view settings. For example: right click the desktop and select "Show view option" and then uncheck the last box.
I am using Yosemite (10.10) but I believe this feature has existed for a long while...
Simply open the file in preview and click on its name at the top of the preview window.

i was just having the same issue and came across this question.
I think I solved it. Go to Finder > View > Hide Preview. Then click Show Preview, it should fix the glitch. Did for me. Good luck.
