macOS – How to Open Password Protected 7zip Archive

As the title says, I'm looking for a way to open password protected 7zip archive. I have the password but cant seem to find an application to open it. So far I have tried the following applications:

Zipeg
Stuffit Expander
7zx
ExpressZip
The Unarchiver

I would prefer any free applications or solutions if possible

Running OS 10.6.8

You can use the command line. One way would be to:

Install Homebrew
Install 7zip: brew install p7zip
Extract the archive in question: 7za x archive.7z

You will be asked to enter the password.

Scanning the drive for archives:

Everything is Ok

If you selected Always Open With from a context menu, it only changes the default application for the selected items. If you change the default application from an information window, it normally also has an immediate effect on open.

If it wasn't that, com.apple.LaunchServices.plist can also be edited as XML:

plutil -convert xml1 ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist

Applying changes requires restarting. Logging out and back in isn't enough.

You could also try using duti or RCDefaultApp.

MacOS – Exclude apps from Spotlight results

Launching applications with Quicksilver the “manual” way is so fast, I’ve never even bothered assigning a keystroke for one. If you did want a keystroke, you could limit the scope so it’s not active in certain applications, or so it’s only active in certain applications.

Also note that Quicksilver will very quickly learn that when you type “it”, you want iTerm by default and not iTunes, so you won’t need to remove it from the results entirely. And unlike Spotlight, you can find iTerm2 by typing something like “trm”.
