I'm trying to upgrade from Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard, using the install CD.
The steps are:
How can I know what's going wrong? What I have to do to fix it?
There should be a point—after you choose the language, but before it starts trying to install the OS—where you see a Utilities option in the menu bar.
Do you get to this point? If so, what happens when you choose Disk Utility?

OK, now it's a different question, so here's my different answer:
If repairing your main partition is what you want to accomplish, why not just run Disk Utility off the 10.5 system disk?
You say the MacBook is empty - does this not have any Mac OS on it?
To install from a USB or HDD you will need to open disk utility and from there select the restore option of the dvd with the hard drive or USB as destination, so if it does not have disc utility then no you can't, you will need to write a CD/DVD.

This has happened to me in the past. The solution that worked for me was making sure that the disc surface is clean and scratch free, and I mean very clean. Using normal CD wipes is good to get dirt off, but if it is scratched more than slightly, then you may have problems.
Or the disc may be defective from the factory, it does happen and they do exist.
Try talking to your local Apple Store about a possible replacement, or if worst comes to the worst, you can order one here (Apple still stocks them).
