MacOS – How to get Finder to remember the size and location of the window

Why doesn't Finder remember the damn window size and location? I keep reading crap about holding down Option key while dragging but that doesn't work. It just reverts back to its microscopic size the next time i open it. It's useless and very tedious and it really aggravates me.

How do I make this thing thing stay the way I want it to? I don't mind playing around with system stuff or running scripts – so long as I only have to do it once only.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Actually there is a simple way to do that.

First you have to open new finder windows (not in Tabs).

Before you click on a new finder window hold the cmd key (not the Option key).

Now you can resize that window or move it around and it will remember that next time you open it.

I don't know any way to change the default window size, but you can use a script like this to reset the properties of windows manually:

tell application "Finder"
    if number of Finder windows is 0 then return
    tell Finder window 1
        set toolbar visible to false
        set sidebar width to 0
        set statusbar visible to false
        set current view to column view
        set bounds to {960, 22, 1920, 1076}
        tell its column view options
            set shows icon to false
        end tell
    end tell

Do a backup in case you mess up. (For experienced users who understand what the next steps do, this can be skipped.)
Open the Finder
Press SHIFT+CMD+G and enter ~/Library/Preferences/. This will open the Preferences folder inside your personal library.
Find the file com.apple.finder.plist and move (drag) it to your desktop.
Re-launch the Finder: Click the Apple icon in the top left corner, select Force Quit, select Finder and kill it. You can restart, but this is quicker.
If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop. If not, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

This worked for me.
