MacOS – How to disable “iCloud Storage is Full” Messages on OS X

Every couple of days I get this message that "iCloud Storage is Full" in a window on my MacBook, it is very annoying, as I know my storage is full and that I need to upgrade it. The window only gives me two options, "Manage" and "Upgrade", either of which opens up System Preferences, which wouldn't be such an issue if my internet connection was faster, but it takes System Preferences way too long to retrieve info about my iCloud Drive and I can't close System Preferences until it does. One cannot hide the window by clicking into another app.

How can I disable these iCloud Drive messages from appearing (perhaps from a Terminal command)? I am using OS X 10.11 "El Capitan", if it makes a difference.

I'm really looking for something that will just prevent this window from launching, maybe via a Terminal command or deleting/renaming a file, rather than just giving in and buying more storage or freeing some space.

As far as I'm aware, these are the only ways to turn off this message:

Turn off iCloud Backup
Free up some space in iCloud
Turn on Do Not Disturb
Pay the money to upgrade

All the Google searches and discussions on Reddit, Apple and other websites indicate that there is no other way. However I'm trying to reproduce the issue to see if it can be solved via the command line.

Until then, or until someone else comes up with a working procedure, assume the above is the only answer.

If you examine using ps the command launched by Printer Setup or when adding a printer through System Preferences, you'll note that it includes a -psn qualifier that directs the application as to the "process serial number" to use to communicate with the application. This effectively tells it how to connect and launch the windows necessary for the calling user/process and it's used for identifying various processes and instances of executables.

Unfortunately its unclear how -- or even if -- you'd actually use this to launch from the command line as its usage is normally invoked from within another calling application using system calls and it seems to imply that you need to create certain "Process Identification Constraints" as part of the call out.

Much of this seems to be marked up in Apple's online documentation as being Deprecated in OS X v10.9 so I'm not sure what to make of this or how to direct you for using it as Apple seems to be advising against the sorts of systems calls that utilize it moving forward. I'd expect to see the sort of calling mechanisms going away in future versions of OS X.

While I realize this doesn't resolve your issue, it does explain the behavior your observing and the reason why you're not getting the expected UI launching.

MacOS – Upgrade to El Capitan has broken MySQL and Apache

MySQL-5.6.14 was installed with a StartUpItem which is necessary to automatically start MySQL while booting. StartUpItems are deprecated meanwhile (and probably wasn't migrated therefore) and launch daemons are used instead.

To get your MySQL back do the following:

Create a soft link:

sudo ln -s /usr/local/mysql-5.6.14-osx10.7-x86_64 /usr/local/mysql

Check the permissions:

ls -laO /usr/local

The command should reveal:

The file needs a trailing empty line/new line.

You may replace --port=3307 by --port=3306 depending on your previous configuration.

Change the permissions of the file:

sudo chown root:wheel /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.oracle.oss.mysql.mysqld.plist
sudo chmod 644 /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.oracle.oss.mysql.mysqld.plist

Load the launch daemon with

sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.oracle.oss.mysql.mysqld.plist

I strongly recommend to update to a newer version of MySQL.

AH00526: Syntax error on line 183 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'Order', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

is related with the old Apache config (10.9) file you are using:

    <Directory />
        Options FollowSymLinks
        AllowOverride None
        Order deny,allow
        Deny from all
    </Directory>

In the new Apache config file (10.11) the section looks like this:

    <Directory />
        AllowOverride none
        Require all denied
    </Directory>

I recommend to setup Apache with a 2.4 (included in 10.11) config file.
